"Te-taw-ken"

The name 'Cayuse' is thought to come from the French-Canadian word for stones or rocks, cailloux,  indicating the kind of land that the tribe inhabited. (Ruby:13) The Cayuse refer to themselves as 'Te-taw-ken' which means 'we, the people.' (Ramsey 1977:15)
