Dr. Schachter has research interests in second language acquisition, cognitive neuroscience, and psycholinguistics. Her primary publications are in second language acquisition.

She is currently involved in a research project that will make accessible on the Internet an SLA database on CHILDES of American children acquiring Spanish, French, German, and Japanese. She is also contributing to projects of Neville Brain Development Lab involving studies of brain activity during language processing by different populations of language users.
